Cervo
SUMMER
Cervo at it’s best! The beaches, rocky coastline, the walks through the olive groves, the “carrugi” alley ways in the medieval village, the Ligurian cuisine based on the world renowned extra-virgin olive oil exclusive to this area where the Taggiasca olives grow and much more……
SUMMER– BEACHES AND THE COASTLINE
Clean, clear blue seas reflect the image of the old village. A unique experience to admire such a special sight whilst relaxing on the beach, basking in the hot Ligurian sun but kept cool by the mild breeze along the coast…..Both free and private beaches are just a few minutes walk away….Don’t miss the fashionable Porteghetto rocky cliff and Marina di Re Dehéz! Download the beach map of the area!
SUMMER–THE COASTLINE AND BEACHES–FREE BEACHES
Fortunately most of the beaches in Cervo are free of charge and never too crowded!
SUMMER–THE COASTLINE AND BEACHES–PRIVATE BEACHES
The private beaches equipped with sun-loungers, parasols, changing cabins, showers and snack-bar/restaurants are found between the free beach areas.
SUMMER–THE ROCKY CLIFFS AND BEACHES–PORTEGHETTO
Don’t forget to take a dive off of the Porteghetto cliff, the heart of the Riviera’s trendy jetset!
SUMMER–THE COASTLINE AND BEACHES–COASTLINE
Ciappelletti, Coltello, Dente di Cane, Casello: crystal clear blue water….
SUMMER–THE “CARRUGI” – THE ALLIES
We suggest that you roam around without any fixed itinerary because every alley has it’s own points of interest. Try to recognize the places that have inspired famous painters, lose yourself in the maze of allies, stop for an aperitif in one of Cervo’s cafés or wine bar….
SUMMER–“CARRUGI”–ARTISTS
Many famous artists have found inspiration from the beautiful medieval allies in Cervo: Carosati Felice, Casorati Francesco, Tullio Rossi, Menzio, Morlotti, Saroni, Aimone, Levi, Chessa, Luchitta, Galante and many more.
In fact during the last week-end of September the “Penello” contest for artists takes place in different locations all over the village.
SUMMER–THE CHAMBER OF MUSIC FESTIVAL AND THE CHURCHES
The magnificent St. John the Baptist’s Church, better known as the Chiesa degli Corallini (Church of the Coral fishermen), designed by Giovanni Battista Marvaldi in 1686, with a distinctive concave façade emblazoned with stuccoes and a stag, or cervo in Italian. It was built with money raised by the fishermen themselves, whose life is recorded in the chapel dedicated to their patron saint, Erasmus. It forms a lovely backdrop for Cervo’s July and August Chamber Music Festival, founded in 1964 by Hungarian violinist Sandor Vegh, featuring internationally famous pianists and violinists.
WINTER
This is an ideal period to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside, along with it’s hamlets and works of art. If you enjoy visiting small hamlets, why not visit the villages of Apricale, Bussana Vecchia partly destroyed by an earthquake, Dolceacqua and it’s castle ruins – try the famous red wine Rossese, Lucinasco, Dolcedo with it’s olive oil press, Pieve di Teco, Valloria where every door is painted by a different artist and last but not least Triora – the mysterious witch village!
If you enjoy walking in the countryside then follow the Ciappà Park trail or walk to the Arroscia waterfalls
Bearing in mind the extremely mild climate in the winter months, MTB excursions and the 24 km San Remo – San Lorenzo cycle path makes a great day out. If you prefer golf, the area offers three courses all within half and hour car ride: Garlenda, Castellaro or San Remo Golf.
An unexpected rainy day! Go underground and visit the Toirano caves “Grotte di Toirano” or make a tour of the various museums in the area: the Ethnographic Museum in Cervo, the Song Museum in Vallecrosia, the Witch and black magic Museum in Triora, the Olive oil Museum at Olio Carli in Imperia Oneglia, the Prehistoric Balzi Rossi Archeological Museum in Ventimiglia, Roman Museum in Albenga, Archeological Museum in Finale Ligure.
You will be surprised how much there is to see and do along the Ligurian coast in the winter!
WINTER – CIAPPÀ PARK
Reach Ciappà Park on foot from Corallini: you will enjoy a wonderful walk first among the olive trees and then, gradually climbing, you will reach the pine forest.
I recommend bringing a packed breakfast: nature has prepared its best table for you!
WINTER – THE CYCLING PATH
24 km of cycling path at your disposal for biking, roller skating, jogging or just a pleasant walk along the coast. Park the car and get pedaling! Car parks available.
EXCURSIONS
Cervo is an ideal spot where you can relax and enjoy the wonderful climate, the tranquil medieval hamlet and the invigorating seaside. However there are lots of places to visit just down the road from this strategically positioned village, that’s why the Romans chose Cervo to rest before going off to conquer Europe!
Alassio is only 14 km and don’t forget Laigueglia also in the “Borghi più belli d’Italia”
